I like this one much better than the other. I love the look of the trees, I think you nailed this one Greg.

Great looking image, Greg. I like the surreal look of the IR filter. The tracks look like they are running off into a fantasy world. Good composition and focus. i think cloning out the sign on the right would improve the overall look.
    Great work, Greg.

    Re: Infrared Railroad

Thanks Gary and Tyson, I removed the sign and must agree it seems more balanced. I also used a little noise reduction and removed a couple of more distractions. I promise I will put the IR filter up for awhile. I have a few more projects to work on.

I have to agree with Tyson. I think this one is a real keeper. Good job. Although, something about the clouds in the sky is bothersome. I can't really put my finger on it, maybe it's just not sharp enough for me.. I like clouds

Greg has shot a few IR images but this one is by far the best. A real far out look here.

    Re: Infrared Railroad

I like it! You have it sharp from front to back as far as I can see, and the cloud is perfect.

I like the way the clouds kind of fall in line with the tracks.

    Re: Infrared Railroad

jspot1980, I agree about the clouds but that's what they looked like when I took the picture. A bit odd. I thought they looked more like rising smoke.

HowLowCaYaGo, Thanks I am glad you like it.

CF, Thanks, Glad to hear from you again where you been?

Tyson, I wish I could put a train in something but exposures for these are in the 6sec to 45 sec range.

Gary, Thanks for making this a better picture and teaching me another lesson. Your help is always appreciated.

    Re: Infrared Railroad

Greg, I love the placement of the tracks but there is a big ball of clouds slightly to the center left and it distracts a little to me. It looks like a ball of light like the sun; but it also makes me think of a "ghost train" coming at me. Smile. It is a strong image. I like what you are doing with the IR, my fav is still the angel statue w no arms; but I haven't seen it
    posted here......hmmmm?
PS. Anna likes it too, she is sitting in my lap and pointing to it, she says.."tracks" and
"clouds" and "trees". I can tell she is pondering the DOF and shutter speed.

    Re: Infrared Railroad

KyRain, Thanks and I agree about the clouds but for some reason editing IR pictures are a little harder than I am use to. I will post the statue you mentioned and I am glad you like the direction I am headed. Your artistic opinion is very important to me. Tell Anna I said hello.

    Re: Infrared Railroad

Sorry for bringing up old posts... but just wanted to comment...

I like the picture before the edit... because I am a purist... if I take a picture of something I normally dont do any material edits... but of course all personal taste..

The only criticism I have... is that I would have fired from a much lower position (maybe 1foot or so) so it give a more trailing away of the tracks.. then the assumption of incline... just a thought for future shots... this one IS very good though... and I know how tough IR can be to shoot sometimes...

    Greg,

I missed this the first time round. Excellent PP skills and I like what you did.

Thanks Roger, Thanks Ross. I intend a reshoot here when the sky is a bit more dramatic. I will certainly try your advise. Nice web site by the way. I enjoy your work.

Beautiful colors, strong geometry. Playing around with the composition, I think it might be even stronger if the bottom rocks and cross wood thing (whatever they call them) was cropped out. Not sure why, but perhaps because it is curving. There is a loss of detail on the left side track too, it being so dark. IR has its pros and cons.

Was this taken with IR film and/or with a filter? I once shot a roll of color IR film, got it back from the developers and it was completey washed out, like glass. Shooting with that stuff is an art.

I see what you are saying about the left side. This was done with a filter. I have toyed with the idea of shooting film but it is a bit costly. I do have a camera that probably wouldn't leak and ruin the film. That is a common problem with IR film, but I may try it one day. Thanks for your input....
