    InFlight Take Away

Luck, plays a big part in most of my pictures.
This was shot through the window of our cottage, focused on the bird feeder I made. (Squirrel Diner would be more correct).

Here in England, meals you order , then collect to eat elsewhere, are known as Take-Aways.
In Flight Catering is just that, they cater for meals eaten by airplane passengers and crew, whilst in flight.

This Tit, is taking a seed from the bird feeder to eat elsewhere, hence the title.

I always thought birds flapped their wings, this one seems to be rocket powered....

I like this shot. Although I'm sure you wish for more sharpness, it's clear enough to tell the story. Birds taking off from an elevated perch will often use a drop to gain some initial flying speed. Keeping their configuration clean probably adds to that speed. You can observe some birds of prey assume similar positions as they stoop to the prey and rapidly build up attack speed.

Kiz, this isn't bad for being shot thru a window, but I'd like to see the whole bird feeder in the frame. It seems incomplete.

That is certainly a very smart little picture. Considering the conditions, you have made a great shot. Expert timing too.

    Hi K,
The shot is very hilarious. The title is perfect! I also like the line of the bird house, which is simple and elegant. I wish the background had a different tone to contrast with the subjects although I understand it is out of your control.

    Kiz,

Great shot, though just wish it was a little sharper. The background is a tad busy for me, but I think the shot still works.

    Great job!

I'd really like to see that with a longer telephoto, cropped to just the blue tit.
Either that or printed large, because otherwise I can't see that peanut clearly.
Great shot - maybe I should put a squirrel feeder in our garden, to attract cat food for the neighbours' moggy..

Hilarious! For some reason, it kind of looks like the bird is trying to commit suicide by not flapping his wings.

    Re: InFlight Take Away

I think you captured the right moment, and the bird feeder being cut off some does not bother me much, but I can understand John's reservations about it. As others have pointed out the focus is soft, probably a result of shooting through the window. What bothers me most here is the very busy background making it a chore somewhat to pick out the subjects. I'm not sure how you would have improved upon that as it's not the dof thats the issue but rather the full exposure of it. I'm thinking that a different lighting condition would have improved that, or shooting from outside the window with a external flash using a minus exposure vale to reduce the bg lightness, and a plus flash exposure compensation to expose the subjects.
Because of the moment captured, which you timed so well, you still have an interesting shot here and a pleasure to view it.
