I love how you composed this. It's not the "normal" take and to me that's what is fun about macros. But the light seems to be lacking. I can't put my finger on how to best improve it, but I'm thinking a slight bit less exposure perhaps, with a bit more saturation? Maybe shooting it at a different time of day (i'm thinking the magic hour? When did you shoot this? Did you use built in flash?) It needs more pop. Those little veins in the flower, the little stamens or whatever they are called, the tiny "hairs" all around it just scream to be seen but none of it really stands out.

    Re: Inferno

Shot it mid-afternoon, under heavy cloud cover, no flash.

I'm wondering if it's a WB issue. The colors seem a bit off to me, but I don't have a calibrated monitor, so I never know if its me or not.

I calibrate my monitor and your colors look great. What about maybe increasing yellow just a tweak (maybe 25% or so), making the blend maybe pin light or soft light and then darkening it just a bit. Maybe 15%. I think that will keep the image pretty true to your capture but allow for a bit more pop of the textures (I think! I'm just throwing it out there).

I'm trying to keep my suggestions on the subtle side. I tend to love going overboard on these things, making all the folks here cringe.

Ohh, so close! Just too many out of focus pieces in the area that should be sharp. Nice red and green and overall composition.
