    Industry

I'm not actually sure if this is an industrial building or even where it is. Shot back in Feb 96, maybe downtown Wash DC or even Harper's Ferry, WV. Seems grim.

I think holding your camera at the top of the fence and shooting over it.

Ok, fair enough fellows.. doesn't look like a big hit with anyone. Strangely enough though, I like it a lot more than you do.

Greg, to me the fence is a big part of the image. It wouldn't be nearly as ominous as it is w/o that fence, which depicts.... something. Not knowing what they use or used this place for is a big mystery to me.

Didn't say I didn't like it, I just feel it needs to be a bit more menacing. Perhaps a little distortion and more contrast. This is sorta what I had in mind.

Yes the subject is great. I see what you mean about the fence. If you are pleased that is all that matters. If you could only get inside and ramble around the HDRs you could pull off. We have an abandoned plant just like this one in Rome but it is sealed tight.

    Re: Industry

I like where you were going with this and I think the fence is a crucial part of the scene. I really like the overall feeling of the shot - and the color film look works great - but again, I'm wondering if black and white - gritty and high-contrast - might make it even more dramatic.

While I can live with the stack being cut off, I kind of wish the top of the tree were in the frame.

    Re: Industry

Greg I'm heading back to the DC area for Thanksgiving, will try to find this place and see if I can get inside (I asked a friend, he thinks he's seen it on New York Ave...).

Pete, I like your edit! I gave my own a try but I don't see much of difference between them. Dray, you're right about the tip of the tree. I'm learning a lot by reading your critiques, and I think it's always better to keep these things in the frame, cause I can always crop them later if I want.

Here's the two edits of my own .. the black & white whites seem a little unreal, but it's the best I could do. - G
