Improvements?

I don't take many people pictures, but have gotten myself involved with taking some for a local charity. This shot was converted using the Channel Mixer. What can be done to improve it?

The sharpness and the tones are fantastic. The hot spot on her head due to sun reflection is somewhat distracting. I guess that a polarizer might have helped to diminish this glow.
