    I'm back! :) Ceci

Been busy as he!! the past few weeks, actually doing some PAID shoots but life is starting to settle down a bit again.

This is Ceci, in front of the camera in a studio for the very first time... (you'll see more of her, as I think she may have a new career in modeling - she was absolutely fantastic to work with) just wondering about the question I can never seem to decide for myself, color or B&W? Any thoughts?

Great shots as always. The B&W for me. Seems more innocent I guess, although I'm not sure that's what your looking for. The only thing I would change with that is to add a little more contrast or darken the backdrop so the bottom left of her neck doesn't blend in so well with the background, giving a little more depth.

Welcome back, Jet. Glad your getting the jobs, thats always a good thing. Hard to choose between the color and b&w here. i like both, but would sway towards the color.

Great way anounce your return Jet . I prefer the colour version , but I wonder if the little shadows under her nose and bottom lip need to be lightened slightly

Actually, I was thinking the same thing when I posted but left it out because you were mainly concerned with which version worked best.
Not a big deal, but the hard shadows under nose and lower lip, and also there under eye from the eyelashes are a bit distracting.

Aside from that, its really fine work and both version are good.
Once again though, i'm swaying towards the color.

Her skin tones are so nice in the color one it is a shame to sacrifice them.

Both are nice. I think the color vs. B&W depends on the intended use. It an interesting photo. The way it is composed makes almost a study of her nose and mouth only, which are nice enough and distinctive enough to stand on its own.

At least it seems to be a valid question judging by the split opinions . For this shoot I experimented with a 600ws head fitted with a snoot and 5 degree grid at full power as the key light to camera right and a softbox for fill on the left, as well as a background light down low. The setup was inspired by Draymorton's recent inquiry into approximating the old Fresnel lights used in the theater. The resulting hard shadows were indeed on purpose (for better or worse).

Thanks for the feedback, and yeah makin' money sure beats TFP and testing, and when they offer to fly you around, it just doesn't get much better than that

Curious as to your thinking here. BTW did you shoot one similar with her eyes open I bet they are very pretty.

She is beautiful, and the photo is great.

    I like the B&W better.

On the color photo I believe her makeup seems flat, except for the color shades on her eye, also seems there is some makeup powder on her eye brow. If I increase contrast by looking at my monitor with a deep angle it looks better.

I believe your are correct that she is going to make a career in modeling. It takes a certain mind set to be able to strike poses such as this.
For me the color one is the more attractive but I see from the replies that is just personal preference and either is very effective depending on situation used for.
Glad to see your stuff again. Makes me think that someday, I'd give it a try just for the experice.
    Keep Shooting!
