    Ice on Branches

I like this one better against the black bg on my blog, but I thought I would put it up here anyhow.

hmmm, I'm not feelin this one Emily. It is too gray, and even after adjusting levels and l it still has a gray look about it. I like the framing, but I think seeing the ice glistening and glittering on the branches is what is needed for this subject. Backlighting on a less overcast day might help pull out the sparkles. I'm wondering if even a slight fill flash might have worked to bring out the branches and sparkle of the ice. Might be worth experimenting with if you can.

Thanks for the quick response, Gary. I appreciate the thoughts and suggestions. I'll go back to this and see if I can bring the glistening out a bit more.
    Thanks again,

    Emily,

I'm with Gary on this one. This has great potential if there was a nice blue background and the sun glinting off the ice. Could be great. On the other hand, sure glad it is you taking pictures of ice and not me. I'll stick to the difficulties of capturing rain drops on flowers.

CF...sorry it took me a little bit to respond! I appreciate your comments on this, and agree about the light and such.

The ice hasn't been so bad...the only trouble was when I got stuck in my parking spot the other morning...that wasn't fun at all...lol!

I think this would look better against a black background, and cant fairly critique it without. Against a white background, it's too grey and I think it would probably be stronger in color

It might help to add a black border around it for posting here, I'd like to see it with some black around it.

Thanks Mr. Yuck...I'll see about adding one and reposting here. I'm on a new computer and I haven't transferred my photoshop over yet!

do you mean a black matting or frameing? cuz if the black background was in the picture we wouldn't be able to see the sticks..... i just wnated to be sure what you meant.

    Re: Ice on Branches

Emily - might have worked if you were in a little closer. As is, I can barely tell there's ice on the branches, even after you said so. I think if the sky was a rich blue that it would've worked better - alas, you can't control the weather. But I think I would have added a little exposure to the shot to lighten it up a bit...

GB, thanks for your comments on this...I agree with ya about getting in a bit closer next time (if there is one this year!). I liked the abstract quality of this, but I want it also to work for those viewing it.
