I think the background blends into much with the foreground. A little too much contrast - the flower is blown out alot. Great black levels. Good position on the screen as well.

Just to add, in this case the other colours from the flowers in the background detract from the main subject, there is no doubt it is a nice flower, getting closer might help to bring it out a bit more.

    Thanks for sharing

What's the new camera? This is a good start, but I'd encourage you to think about how you might obscure some fo the background detail and further bring out the detail in your subject. THe pic si obviously about the flower and you may need some contect, but I find my eye moving around a bit in the frame. Does that make sense?

New camera is a Minolta Maxxum 50, yes finally have an SLR, but not a DSLR yet. I dont want to do this type of shot with this camera, just testing the lens some since it says "macro capable". I am kinda over the flora photos. The others I have recently posted were with the same camera.

Yeah, it does look blown on my monitor too. I have learned quickly that the monitor and print look a bit different, maybe I should have edited it some.LL, yeah i understand what you are trying to say. I guess I should have taken time to set up the shot too.

Thanks all for your time and comments.

Do the settings seem right though? I am working toward manual, so any help is appreciated! Thanks again!

exteremly good shot as you staring up new camera, very good shot for such subject, plz do use wide open, low F " 2.8" to blur up background and it will make this flower stand out more.
