    I/o

I had a bunch of hard drives in the house that are all <10gb. Pretty much useless and certainly not worthwhile to convert to external drives since you can get thumbdrives that size for almost pennies now. So I figured I'd open them all up and see which one will become Mr Photogenic.

I called it I/O since the head (thing at the end of the arm) does Input/Output.

I like it. Could be interesting in color, too. I'm guessing the drive (platter?) might have reflective rainbow colors.

I just put another photo of my own up for critique. Would love to read your comments iand suggestions if you care to leave some.

Thanks. The platter was not giving any type of rainbow effects at all. It is the smoothest surface I have ever seen, though.

Like it, Nice and sharp. I really like it in black and white, but it would be interesting to see the color version. Its amazing how small hard drives used to be, considering I just bought my 3rd tb.

nice shot! I like it as is but think that you could play with the composition a bit too to less center the arm (maybe some off the bottom). Has a 'retro' feeling to it.

Has a cool feel because of the modern similarity to the vintage turntable! This would be a good entry for the Feb photo project "Opened!"

    Thanks guys!

GB1, I tried to get most of the arm and at least part of the spindle which is why I have the head where it's at.

ah thanks! I did not know about it. If I have more replies for the B/W vs Color, then I'll put that one in there.

Color version works nicely. In a few years you will need an electron microscope to phtograph an equivalent mechanism....
