    Question The Hunter

Here is a photo that I took a while back. My eyes are *sadly* untrained.. but to me it seems that the background is.. well.. off somehow.

What do you guys think? Please feel free to make any changes.. for the better of course!

The background is bright, but not overly. You've managed to get a shallow depth of field (and with a point & shoot camera that's quite an accomplishment!) which makes the cat "pop" nicely separating it from the background. Composition is pretty good too, although I think I'd like to see a little more at the top and a little less at the bottom. Sharpness and contrast are also very good. Nice job ;)

The only negatives really are the line in the background running through the cat's butt and ears; and the lack of definition in the black fur, particularly the nose.
If this was shot in RAW then you would have more latitude to edit and shift the brightness.

I adjusted it a bit, lightening the shadows to bring out a little more detail in the fur, and reveal the nose.

I like how the nose stands out now.. thanks!

You have a very difficult scene there.
Black cat and white background !
It's difficult to know how it's going to turn out, unless your camera has a histogram function.
In which case you can check to make sure that the left (dark) and right (light) ends aren't cut off sharply - that indicates over or under exposure.
