Hummingbird

I have been practicing my HB captures with a 4-flash set up including a background picture. Here is a result. I think it looks 'flashy' and flat. Agree? What would help? - Terry

Yay! A return of your HB shots! I enjoyed the process you showed a couple of years ago, glad to see it still going.
That is a pretty unique shot of a humming bird, IMO. Capturing the moment is so important, as you did in this shot. Love the outspread wings.
The body does seem to be "flashy" as you say, not as much detail as the throat area.
The only suggestion I can make is to try a single shot HDR.

Well it is a unique angle but still I like it. I guess it flat because you are shooting the less colorful side of the bird.
I too have been missing your HB shots. Overall this one works just because of the different angle. You did manage to get part of its eye. I have always read the most important aspect of wildlife shooting is the eyes.
Have you ever though to do a work shop?

I think it works ok. I don't like the plastic flower ...it gives the whole image a bit of a "plastic" look.

I like the hummingbird would have been nice if the flower was a natural one.

a bit of dodging and burning would take care of the flatness, if you increase contrast you'd diminish details in the shadowy parts of the bird
