    Smile Hummingbird

I am a beginner at photography and would like to see how I am doing. I got my first digital point n shoot camera last october (which I didn't use very much) and just a few months ago bought a Nikon DSLR. I mainly take pictures of wildlife and was lucky enough to capture a humming bird in its prime years.

I know it probably needs to be crop, which is just about the only thing I know how to do in photoshop, so all images are raw at the moment.

You may want to blur the background, too, as it's quite busy right now. It looks like it was shot from a low perspective. Understandably sometimes you have no choice other than between taking the shot or not taking it. The photo certainly would look better if the bird was looking down at your direction. Lights look a bit harsh but without much blown highlights there. Try to focus on the eye or at least close to it. The bird could use some post-shooting sharpening, too. Overall, could use some improvement but not too bad for a first try.

I would probably crop from the right up to the vertical stick on the right and burn in the very bright feathers on the bird. A bit of sharpening to finish it off.
