    Horsepower

here is a shot from the weekend. i tryed a little HDR on it, i named it horsepower because there is a horse, and also the fact that there is a v6 engine block on the fence weighing it down so it doesnt fall over. and engine power is measured in horse power lol corny i know. anyways let me have it! lol

hm, i think the color is kinda washed away.
and the color of the house is kinda blueish or purpleish, was it blue when you took this photo?
i dunno it's just my opinion. I might be wrong.

    Re: Horsepower

commented a bit ago.....maybe i forgot to hit submit.
Anyway you have that lavender cast everywhere and its looks surreal. Don't know if that's from the hdr or not.
I think you can crop the foreground up to the engine block. With hdr, I'd think that horse would not be so dark and have more detail. Don't know, have only tried it a couple of times.
Looks like a lot of photo opportunity here. If you can get back shoot a lot of angles, closeups, etc. and I'll bet you can get some nice stuff here.

    Re: Horsepower

Well maybe it is my monitor, but the horse looks fake to me..The colors are all strange...I would also like to see less fore ground and more of the roof line....I also think a tighter crop to put the horse to the left and crop as Paul said up to the block and clone out the buckets that are distracting...But that is just me....I do see a gold mine there with many different cool images to be taken.

    Re: Horsepower

    Rylan -

    Hmmm...

The subject is good. But it looks a bit off to me, the main problem being that the barn is purple where much of the rest of the image is normal colored, making the barn seem out of place. There's also just too much wasted foreground area - I'd crop it, and perhaps too little area around the barn, which is clipped off. Seems to me that you could have angled the camera up a bit more and got more barn (hindsight, I know). The foreground is also too dark in comparison to the rest. But it is an HDR............

    Re: Horsepower

This scene has a lot of potential. I think you tried including too many elements in your composition. Also, the barn is centered at the top of the frame and the engine is... dead center... creates a static photo. Maybe it's just me but, it looks like the horse is headless. Seeing as the horse plays such an important role in the composition, I think it should have a head. Give it a second try.

    Rylan...
Thats it....Looks great..I had not noticed the wagon wheel before and the horse looks like a horse...The block is precious as a fence post stake...I like it allot...I would have went the other way in the crop, but after seeing yours, I would have made a mistake...You done well...

    Re: Horsepower

I would leave the barn out of the picture and just concentrate on the horse and the engine block if that is what you want to portray in your image. The barn is okay except that is too large in comparison to the main subject (the horse). Some of the objects in the background are distracting. The plastic bucket for instance. While photographing any subject it is always better to eliminate as much as possible that may distract from the subject. Also it is also true that whatever you do to focus attention into your subject helps you to take better photographs. I hope my comments help. I can see that you have many possibilities with this horse, barn and engine block.

    Re: Horsepower

Rylan, I like the digitized effect you had in the first offering but other than a much needed crop my problem with it was the horses head missing. The last one here you put up is what I wanted to see in the first. I would bring out the shadow detail some more with the HDR but not too much like the first one. Also, a crop from either the right or the left side would improve.
