    Home no more...

Again, from my downtown Edmonton photo shoot. The place I called home for 9 months. Do you like the framing with the tree branches and the cement barrier down low?

Love the tree framing - excellant. The bottom concrete wall less so though.. A slight letdown compared to the rest of the shot. If you crop it out, maybe it comes out better? (but then you lose most of the snow).

I'd try cropping it for ya and see, but the new guidelines says the site Gods have forbidden it.

    Gb,

I did a "quicky" crop using the IE scroller...looks much better. The snow isn't a huge loss. Glad you liked the trees though...cause cropping out some of those would definately hurt the shot IMO.

    Thanks again,

    Jared

I agree, the bottom wall takes away alot from the unusual structure of the building. I find it distracting more then helping. I think that the trees are very nicely 'placed'. The only other thing I can say is possibly trying to get this on a blue sky day to help seperate the building from the sky.

    Chow,

Thanks for the critique and good point about the sky. It was reallly bright yesterday (no clouds or anything, so it definately washed out the sky).

    Thanks again!

Nothing to add, except I think a great benefit of a better sky would be the reflections in the glass. Love all the shapes.

    Jared,

This is a nice shot. I like the angle - and yes the framing of the tree branches give it a nice touch. They aren't too much - so aren't distracting.

I too agree about the wall.......a bit distracting. I think you took care of that.

    Payn,

Those reflective windows are definately a source of some great shots. Thanks for the critique.

    Liz,

Glad to know you like it. Thanks for commenting!

Jared, i think the framing works here, but i would have liked less or no wall. The trees frame nicely. Overall, a fine composition. i would try adjusting the levels a bit to bring out some white in the snow, but not too much.

    Re: Home no more...

Sorry, I disagree with some of the points of view above. The low wall in the foreground is to me, quite essential.
    1) It places a limit on the distance to the object the photographer can use. It is important as it tells me where the photographer chose to take the image.
    2) the season is tied to the slumbering foliage in the Wall, its a planter perhaps.
    3) the composite angle the wall creates, strikes the scale balance for the picture.

I think it is great, and a very important non pretensious part of the photograph.

    Keep the wall in Jar-e

    Gary,

Thanks for the comments. I tried to balance snow out, but the sky became overexposed...this was as close as I could get it. Thanks again.

    Kizz,

Thanks for your view about keeping the wall in. I appreciate it.

Edmonton? I have a friend who spent last summer there and absolutely loved it... As for the picture, I really like the top part, the symmetry and the trees. I wouldn't know what to do with the bottom.

Edmonton is quite beautiful Amithi. It's a neat city, definately a good place to live.

    Thanks for the comments!
