Yes I would lay the background out until you get rid of the wrinkles before you shoot.I think the logo needs some work as well. I would have the lines come to a point that vanishes or goes off screen. The lighting looks good on the face, the bottom 3rd of the photo needs a bit more I think. Good shot!

Thanks - kind of a unprepared shoot really and the 'background' is a blanket - I think I will photoshop the lines out.
Not sure I understand your comments about the logo.

And as far as the lighting goes, the whole body was lit evenly but I put a vignette around the pic to draw more attention to his face...

I think the vignette works fine, though I do agree that it would be better to clone out the stitched panel lines in the background blanket. Great expression; this reminds me of Loupey's dog with the head tilted and the wide eyes

I'd crop it just below your logo as I find the lower part of the frame distracting and busy. The angle of the pup's head, neck and shoulders work the frame nicely. Nice job on getting him to look into the camera so intently.

    Cheers,

    Re: Hobbit

The expression is priceless. I love your choice of background color -- that red against the gold of the dog is very nice. However, I don't particularly like the blanket -- a bit too busy and therefore distracting from your subject. I really like your lighting of the dog.

As far as your logo, I really like your use of the lines and your choice of font. However, I can see the point made above, I think, in that the lines on the right stop rather abruptly. If you carried those lines out just a bit further, staggering their ends or perhaps connecting them, or perhaps running them off the frame as suggested, it might add a bit more softness. That's nitpicking, though.

If it were my pic, I would be pretty happy.

Love the tilt on the head, the arrangement is very good. Would have liked to see the entire dog in the shot though. Who am I'm to say though, I'd never be able to do as well as this in any case. S
