    Re: hitting the beach

Pretty good work here, Phil. I'd say all looks very nice but the one thing that bugs me a bit in both is the crop right at the knee joint.
In the first image (b&w) I'm feeling her pose is a bit unrelaxed and I'd feel that her looking away as opposed to directly at the camera here would have been better.
The technicals on your end look fine though. Aside from these nit piks its very nice work

I can't find anything wrong with any of these pictures. I want to get started in fashion photography so these pictures really caught my eye. The only small critique that I have is the placement of her hair in the first pic it is on her mouth which is cool but it was blown there so it is kinda frizzy. If it was wet and clinging to her lips I think that would have been better. I think these pictures are awesome. Great Job.

thanks guys... It was my first time out at the beach... go figure... I live in CA and never did it. It was also new equipment for me.. just a speedlight and a STE-2 wireless trigger. These things are fun !!! really handy especially near water. I ditched my heavy portable battery and strobe for this.

Very impressive for speedlite work. Haven't used the STE in ages. Maybe it's time to break it out again.

The conversion in #1 is great. Love the dof and bokeh - adds so much. Kind of agree with Gary about the pose, but that's a nitpick. Crop isn't a bother, but that's an aesthetic preference.

Outstanding for 1 strobe !!! I was wondering about that from seeing the BTS shot ...

I like the color shot the best, the hair light is great ;)

the white balance between her skin and the ambient light is fantastic

Imagine if I had 2 speedlights ?!!! That would have even super cool...maybe next time out. You absolutely need a few assistants though. Very tricky to shoot when you're chasing the sunset.... I had fun though.

Two speedlites would have been great! At first, I thought you were shooting with two - one for the main light and one for rim.

Chasing the light... tricky, but I'm assuming you were on E-TTL with that STE-2? That helps.

I have to get back into the strobist thing again.
