    High steel

Iron workers, about 100' up on a project that's a couple blocks away from the one I'm working on in South Beach.

these are both pretty good shots, jet. My fav of the two being the second one because of it's crisp sharpness and I think the colors works well in it.

Thanks Gary. I like the second shot better too. I played with desaturating the first just to see if the dark/light contrast worked better or worse than full color. I have some other similar shots that I may put in the viewfinder section as a series in the next day or two.

Newbie question: When you talk about saturation, is this something you are doing in the camera? or post-process? or both?

I like the second one best because of the color, crispness and the play of light on the guy's face.

    Re: High steel

    Paula,
Saturation is the prominence and intensity of color. My camera has very minor adjutments for this but generally speaking this is done in post processing. As you can see from the red arm of the crane in the background, the first shot is not B&W (or greyscale as itis also referred to), but somewhere in between that and full color. Sometimes when shooting in bad light it's advantagous to boost the saturation as was done with another photo in this critique section titled frosty morning. Photoshop and Paint ShopPro have simple sliders to increase/decrease saturation level for all, or just a selected part of an image.
