    hidden history (farmhouse)

    Hi All,
I did a trio of these old farmhouses, and wanted to use them together. However they seemed a bit much when I put them all on the mat together. Hmm. Maybe shown together, however matted separately?

Any thoughts on this? Again, still playing around with a
    contrasty/grainy look on these.
I'll post the others a bit later.

    Any critiques/comments are appreciated.

    Hello Villena,

I love your composition and the overdone colours but I feel that the lighting is too harsh. The aesthetic that you are going for is truly interesting but I think that a softer light would bring your shot to the next level.

    regards

    Seb

    another try...

    Seb,
    Thanks for your feedback.
Here is the first one, and a revised. I see what you mean about the harsh light, it is certainly noticeable in the blades of grass, and in the leaves in the upper right.
Hope this is a bit better.
Let me know what you think.

    Hey Villena,

I don't mean to sound "grinchy" but I think that you have created a new problem by solving one. On the second picture, the light do is relatively softer but the darker areas lost details. I think that this is one of those situation where the lighting difference from the brighter areas to the darker areas exceed the latitude of your camera sensor (just like my ruins shot from last week with the blown out sky and the dark beam in the foreground).

I like your ideas and I think that you should reshot the scene at a different time of the day.

    regards

    Seb

    I love this

I love this type image, being in a rural are I have an opportunity to find and shot a lot of scenes like this. Getting them right is sometimes very difficult. Lighting is so important and very hard to control. Timing your shot once you find a scene like this is very important getting that big light source (sun) in just the right place to put your subject in just the right light. I was looking at some pictues I took a couple of years ago last night of an old barn that was collapsing around itself and noticed that I had just been there at the wrong time and the image lacked the impact I would have like for it to have. I think Seb is right on in both his post about this image. All I would add is keep working on the final product and if need be and you like this subject enough take time to visit the site when you can get the lighting that will be more benificial to your image. Thanks for posting and lets see some more of these old structure shots.

    villenadecorte...

Hi, I'm gonna have to agree with Seb and OT this time because the lighting is just way off. The first one is very harsh and the second one is lacking detail. The subject is interesting to me because I don't live in the country and only see this kind of thing on vacation to the mountains. The idea that these old barns are still around is definately something to
record before they are all gone. I would like to see the other two if you can, please post them.

    sun, heat light...

    OT, Seb and Shesells,
I totally agree with you. Unfortunately, I shot these in the morning, before the raging heat came (its been close to 100 by 11 am every day. ugghh), so the sun was still not peak... it was more like s.e.
The windows of this farmhouse face westward, so my guess will be to go back around 5- 7 in the evening, before sunset when I will have the sun behind me.
Not to mention, I was running around this persons property- tresspassing, I am sure, and without my tripod! haha.

    Thanks for the feedback!!
