Hi again! new photo and question.....

I took this pic a few months ago,..I saw the seagull dive out of the sky and just started clicking away! lol. When i got home I was so happy to see I got this shot....that said...I have noticed not just in this photo but other bird photos, the wings are always blurry!! Is there anyway to fix that? I am using an olympus E500 Thanks!

In order to freeze the wings you will need a faster shutter speed. What shutter speed was this shot at? The shutter speed you will need to freeze the motion is going to depend on how fast the motion is. For example, a sand hill crane flying has a much slower wing beat than a hummingbird. The slower the subject, the slower shutter speed you will need to freeze the action, the faster the subject, the faster shutter speed you will need.

I think 1/500 usually a good start. That's a pretty good catch there (for you and the bird). If you could apply some sharpening I think that would help a bit. I think a little blur is good for the wings.

Faster shutter speed. No way to fix it post-photo.

Here's what some would suggest: for bigger birds start with 1/1000s. Small birds 1/2000s and up to be safe. Although sea-gulls fly quite slow, but when they're close enough to you, you need higher shutter speeds to catch them.

This could be a good action shot. I like the moment and wish I were there. I also like the wing position. Having the wings blurred is not necessarily a huge problem in flight shots as blurred wings can give a sense of motion better.

Problems with this shot, to me, is that the right wing is clipped (this could be fixed in post-processing if that's not against your ethics and some people including some pros do that) and the bird doesn't look sharp.

    Better luck next time.

I agree with Aging, I feel that the head, eyes and prey should be sharp. That's where my eyes go.

im not that good with photoshop yet....lightening and sharpness all that i can handle but i dont know how to remove things and fix things like that. Ill see what i can find tho.
I really love this shot anyway lol it was one of those moments where i just had the wrong lens on and the bird was so close and too quick lol
