Here's an old one I decided to do some work on... Journey to Smith

Was looking through my archives, and found the overexposed original, this is what I came up with.

I find it almost too bright and blown out in the middle there. It's like looking into the sun, I don't want to look there, but I can't help it...

Would it help to maybe brighten up the rest of the background and leave the person as is? Create more of a focus on the figure? Also, maybe crop out the building in the background along the horizontal walk-way (?), as it seems a bit distracting.

But I really I dunno...I'm new at all this ;).

The bokeh in the top middle/left is very distracting to me, and the bokeh on the tree as well. On the other hand, the focus and dof on the person and building is very well done. I think it could be well served by a real tight crop to bring those more into focus. Personally the walk-way (I think its an entry door actually?) doesn't bother me. Just too much tree and, uh, whatever that brown spotty bokeh is.

I tend to agree, this might be better served by cropping it into a portrait format and concentrating on the right side. I'd nip it just beyond the elbow on the left and lose all the white/green/brown distraction.
