Talking Help a new guy out

Hey guys, I am very new to this forum and I am somewhat new to photography. I picked up a Canon Rebel XT and went out to take some photos. I use aperture priority and shutter priority most of the time and sometimes I get a blue tint in my pictures but I fix it in iPhoto. I was wondering what settings I should apply to avoid the blue tint. Anyway here are two of my photos that I've taken.

Welcome to the Forum. My first suggestion regarding the blue tint would be to check your white balance setting. There are several settings for different types of light, i.e. outdoor, bright sun light, cloudy days but also indoor lighting for the different types of bulbs used indoors. One gives a distinctly blue hue to photos not used in that type of wave length. Select AWB and see if that doesn't help.

I've been using AWB and it has given me a bluish look as well. I think I'm going to buy a circular polarizer filter and try out different settings

I think coastal flyer may be right...this sounds like a white balance issue. If none of your WB settings are giving you what you're looking for, you might start experimenting with the custom WB setting. Either that or shoot in raw and adjust the color temp in your software program once you've downloaded your images to the computer.
