Heartbreak Hotel (Please Note - Nudity)

As part of the same photo shoot with the "Its a cover up" posting, this was taken out in the Californian desert at an old adbandoned movie prop building. I originally figured this shot was toast because of the harsh contrast, but I was able to recover it to this with fancy scanning and graphical editing.

I wonder if the photo would have been better if she was standing in front of a door instead of a window? Comments appreciated -

Very old west feel, but I feel you need to try to lighten up your models head. Her head, hair, hat, face, all get lost in the shadow. Also, I'd like to see it more level. I feel like your model is going to topple over. I think this could be an excellent shot as is. And you definitely have a very beautiful model.

I took this photo into paintshop for you and cropped it straight and lightened her head and hat a bit......what do you think? Hope you don't mind I did this?

    Hi GB,

That is a nice shot, and I can see what you were going for. In response to the "Heartbreak Hotel" theme, in may have been more on to have your model pose next to the door. What hurts this image are the shadows, and I don't think there is much that you can do about it here.

Re: Heartbreak Hotel (Please Note - Nudity)

To me looking at a very reduced image quality information it lacks mostly from incorrect white balance, brightness is missing on the model, maybe a flash would have helped here for fillin, and isn't sharp it is blurry to me.

So I took the image into Photoshop CS2, and when I loaded it, it asked to convert to sRGB profile which I did. I then applied some brightness and contrast, mainly brightness, did some unsharpen masking and then applied noise ninja back to the image do diminish the pixilating around the edges a bit on the image. Remember it is a low quality pixel image to start with for trying to work on. Having the full image probably would be a totally different story I imagine.

Anyway my attempt at getting it a little better maybe. Still needs work though, but not a lot to work with, without the image loosing it, see the girls left knee and just above it, the orange flair.

Re: Heartbreak Hotel (Please Note - Nudity)

Thanks for the replies. I initially thought this image was a total wash cause the shadows were really extreme on the slide, but was able to semi-recover it using my scanner's software. I was apparently so busy with that that I didn't even notice that it was tilted! I also think it would have worked better next to the door, but then I couldn't get in the sign. Worked alone on this one, so no one to help with reflectors, which I actually did bring but never used. One really need help on shots like this: next time I'll know.

ChowChi-Ching and Peter - thanks for the artistic effects! Anything I post here I'm fine with others adjusting. Ken, it looks a little too white to me there, but I can see what you were trying to do. I guess PS can help but not work total miracles.
