    Headshots

Shot in the late afternoon today at a local park.

Taken with a Canon 7D using the built in remote flash trigger to a 580EX. 580EX was mounted to a monopod held about 2 feet above my head.

    C&C appreciated.

The lighting came out very nice. thats what i like about the hotshoe flashes is that they can give you great studio like lighting and can be taken anywhere and used very easily.
this is a fine example. did you use any diffuser? Lumiquest makes an excellent little softbox for the flash that folds up flat and can pack easily in your side pocket of a camera bag. It helps soften light very well.

Agree the light came out pretty good, there is a strong shadow under the chin but TBH I didn't noticed it until I started nit picking.
The shot with the smile is my favorite from the two. The other lacks strength in the expression IMO.

Thanks. I'm really glad the 7D remote flash control worked well out doors. I've had trouble with the Canon flash control accessory in the past.

The light was diffused with one of those white hard plastic covers. Not the best for portraits since it's not soft at all. I'm glad you approve of Lumiquest. I was just looking at their stuff at the store Thursday.

Those are both very good. The one on the right is spectacular. Love the model.

I have a hard time getting softness out of anything I do, but it is not the equipment's fault.

One small quibble, although not a criticism is that she would look great with some catchlights. Those irises are begging to be lit up. Literally begging I tell you...

Wow....I didn't even notice that. I just looked at the original highres and there's barely any catch light at all. Interesting.
