    Hattie Carroll

I took this with a similar intention as The Watchman. I wanted to cause mystery, make people wonder, but I wanted something gritty, cold, unusual. This was taken in an abandoned Sanitarium.

Converted it to B/W (Two tone) then used a bleach bypass to increase the dramatic effect. Also darkened the left hand side by the door to increase the shadow framing.

This one was also shot with my Fuji X100

    Shutter Speed: 1/128 second
    Aperture: F/2.8
    Focal Length: 35 mm
    ISO Speed: 1000
    Handheld

I want to know how I can improve and appreciate all feedback. All input welcome! Thanks!

I like what you did with it. The person in the background I feel adds a lot to the photo. Great work.

    Re: Hattie Carroll

The title creates more mystery for me than the actual photograph. If it is derived from Dylan's "The Lonesome Death Of Hattie Carroll" then I fell the title is a misuse. Please correct me if I am wrong.

As for the photograph it looks very contrasty on my monitor here at work so I will check it when I get home. I like the placement of the person at the end of the corridor. These sanitorium pictures are by now two a penny so something very interesting is needed to lift it above the others.

I have a total lack of respect for anything connected with society, except that which makes the roads safer, the beer stronger, the food cheaper, and the old men and old women warmer in the winter and happier in the summer. Brendan Behan

Good experiment D, but I find the missing detail a bit extreme. I think that this high-contrast type technique works better with strong geometry, esp of a person's face in profile. I do like the person being at the end of the hallway and the way the lines direct you to him, but he's too small for it to really work.
