Such a good subject. I think you needed to get lower....on his level and he needs to be further from the center of frame. Being lower would still allow the bg to be there but a larger aperture could be used to blur it more.
Does he make license plates, too?

I'm not sure what the plates are all about actually. They do add some nice color and interest to the photo though.

As nice as all of the hats and background are, I wonder if a close-up of the man might look ok as well?

I like the subject. I do feel a little more at the bottom with all of the hats in the shot would have helped. I was about to ask the same thing about the plates?
