Harbor Freeway

This was not an easy shot to get. I was by myself in downtown, on a highly visible freeway overpass that forbade pedestrian access. So not much time to really get it perfect.

Thoughts?

The whole thing looks slightly tilted to the left and I am bummed by the 2 poles/trees on the left blocking the even flow of the headlights.

Still, it is a great location and well worth many (abet short) return visits.

Agree about the two poles/trees. I find them distracting.

Also agree that it looks tilted, but I think that the effect works well in this case. It actually adds something, in my opinion.

Nice image, Dr. I really dig your urban landscape work in general and this shot is no exception.

I am going to disagree about the poles/trees.

I think they give it a realistic feeling. Something that tells us about the photographers perspective. I think removing them the shot would lose some of the character and also they add a sort of illusion of greater depth/distance than there actually is between him and the bridge.

Love the blue skies.

I see what you're saying, Luke. Taking them out would drastically change the feel of the image. I'm still not sure about them, though.

Also, forgot to add that I love the sky/stars/clouds, as well.

What were the settings for this shot?

I'll have to look again at the tilt. I did straighten it in post, but it looks like the building I used isn't vertically centered.

MB: When I got home I used Google Earth to see if any of the other overpasses around there were better, and I think I found one or two. Definitely going for a return visit.

Draymorton: Thanks a lot for the nice comments. This was a 25-sec exposure, at f/11 I think. Something like that. EXIF may still be embedded in the pic.

When I got home I looked at this on my MAC and it looks a whole lot better than it did on my crummy PC at work so I like it even more than I did when I posted earlier.

But now that I think about it this would sure look better shot in Europe.

The more I look at this image, the more I'm distracted by the trees. I'll have to get back there and find a different angle, longer lens, something. Thanks again for all the great comments and feedback.
