    Hanging On

Beautiful Saturday afternoon in the KY woods. Most of the color is gone, there were still a few interesting leaves hanging on till the last. This one caught my eye. What do you say?

I like the sweeping curves in this composition and the rich, waxy color in the main leaf. The other leaves supply a good counterpoint. Beauty.

No macro here. It was done with an nikkor 80-200mm set at 200 and the D70 on spot meter. Hnad held at 1/2500 at f2.8. Thanks for the reply.

Thanks Chunk I was really struggling to find a little color. I liked the bright color and the curve of the leaf as well. Looked all weekend for some decent patterns for you but didn't come up with anything.

Thanks Old Timer, for the input. I also have a D70 and I gained some knowledge today. I'm going to try your settings on my camera as well. What was your white balance set at and how far were you from the subject?

I exposed like I would have for slide film 1/2 stop under and spot metered on the highlights. I wanted a shallow depth of field so I shot at f2.8 and I was at the minimum distance with the 200mm setting from the subject. I was using auto WB. Nothing revolutionary here, but hope it helps in some small way.

This is a beautiful shot OT!

I love the shallow DOF and the main subject is tack sharp. The composition is also very pleasing, although I find the 3 bright spots in the background slightly distracting.

I see that you put your 80-200 to good use (as always!). I can't wait to get one of these myself.

    Cheers,

    Steph.

Thanks Steph. The 80-200 is a great piece of glass. I had wanted one for a very long time before I took the plunge. I have not had any reason to regret the decision.
