    hand it over (flower picture)

Again, another picture from my first 35mm shooting. (kinda hard holding a camera in one hand and a flower in the other... especially when you have a relatively slower shutter speed)

Has character. This is interesting to me, becuase as a documentary shot of the flower, it's not great. As you've pointed out, it's not too sharp. But aside from that, it has an artsy kind of feel that I can't easily define. The trick, maybe, is too know what that feel is and to be able to pull it out of your bag of tricks when you want to.

Jessica, I can understand why you would be drawn back to this one and not willing to let it go. I have many of those . While I do think the lack of anything sharp here is hurting the image, i feel somewhat like LavaLamp in that there is an artsy feel to this that can make the lack of sharpness almost irrelevant to the feel of it. I find the composition is appealing in the hand extending from the lower left corner and the flower brought up into the upper right area. I'm not sure if I like the yellow cast on the hand.

Jessica. Not bad there. Very hard to shoot something in your own hand, esp with a shallow DOF (and slow shutter speed). The softness doesn't bother me to much... sort of seems like a 60s album cover, or impressionist.

I don't think the background does it justice... Just for fun, I copied and pasted it on a pastel background. I think it might work a little better (?)

The lack of sharpness does bother me, but I think it's because my eyesight is so poor that I always want things to be in focus (most of my shots, however, are not!). I do like the comp and I like what GB did with it (though I'd prefer it with fewer jagged edges ).

thanks for the comments you guys

this is how the picture looked like to my eye when i took the picture, the wall in my room is purple... and almost the color you used for the background. But the lighting skewed the photo giving it a yellow cast.
