Don - Interesting contrast of the photos. The top one has a nice blue and a nice placement of ducks, but I dont care for the background.. Too bland for me. The bottom one is obviously very processed. The ducks fade into the background -- camouflaged ducks? Must be hunting season (!) I will assume you did this on purpose and not just over-sharpened it (hehehe).

I did it on purpose--fusing a high contrast over-sharpened image with a low contrast image. It gives the picture a kind of texture. It shows up a lot better in the full-sized print. This is reduced to 640 X 480. That loses some detail and adds distortion. The mallard-gull photo had an extremely ugly background. I synthasized the sky.
