Great Salt Lake Sunset

I took this about a month ago at the salt lake.

Well I'll be. I'm looking at my latest photo in the gallery, checking to see what kind of action it's getting, and right there next to it is another photo featuring the Great Salt Lake. What are the odds?!! It's godd to see another Northern Utah photographer here. I'm seeing more and more. We need to have a little get-together so we can all meet face-to-face

The sunsets lately have been pretty sweet and photo worthy. In this one it looks like you might have missed the peak color by a minute or so. I'd also like to see more lake and more detail in the foreground. That's tricky since the tonal range is so great. I think your exposure is pretty much right on. You have to pull the detail out of the foreground with Photoshop or other photo editing software. We can help you learn how to do that if you don't know how. So basically, I see what you have here as a good starting point for a finished image.

The good news is, since you live in Tooele it will be easy to reshoot! I think your composition is pretty good. The one thing I'd do is shoot from closer to the lake or at a higher angle so we can see more than just a little sliver of water. And then try lightening up the foreground to get a little shadow detail. That will open up the image and make it a lot more three-dimensional.

Lol, I'm a former Utah citizen, Kaysville (right by Layton). The salt lake and antelope island are one of my favorite places to take photo's anywhere.

John's already said everything I could say, the most specific critique to this shot I had was the low perspective, I'd like to see it in a way that the grains dont interfere with the horizon (or at least, very little).
