i saw the image a few minutes ago and did not comment, because I really could not find anything I did not like about it...So I came back to say what I liked...The Red flower is classic...The placement is great...I guess, if there was something I would change, it would be to make the Flower and in particular the Red a tad brighter and the back ground, (the tomb stone) a tad darker...To give it that Kinda of ''Sin City movie'' Look...But that is just me...Great composition...I still marvel at how some of you folks come up with these great photos...So simple, yet so powerful...

Oh it is a "Keeper" all right.

I assume you shots lots of versions of this and selected this one as the best composition. Little to fault with this at all (although I do wish there was slightly better lighting as the stem of the flower looks a little blown out on this monitor).
    No, I DON'T need that.

Nice bold contrast between the red flower and the neutral gray stone. Strong visual message. In my opinion, I think the entire composition should be rotated so that the stem travels from bottom left to upper right. I just think it would look more natural. Small detail. I really like the photo.

GB - You've got a very nice shot here. My comment would follow somewhat what freedom mentions, but I would rotate just the flower so that it was perpendicular to the writing, but still keep the image rotated. Does that make sense? I also agree with the comments of the others on the combination of the flower and the marker. Works very well.

Looking at the image one more time with my ''calibrated'' monitor, it looks great....
I need to calibrate the monitor on my XPS laptop at home, but I digress...

    Re: Grave Flower

Javier - I think you're right that the color is a bit subdued. I think it was cloudy that morning, and the image does seem a little flat (no shadows).

MB - Only two shots. I shot it walking away from the Joshua Tree sunrise shots, where were taken next to a cemetery. It just seemed to be an interesting angle and a simplistic scene, but I was pretty tired at this point. I do need to PP it better, but like I mentioned above, the lighting was flat and there's really nothing one can do about that (yet! I'm sure there will be a PS filter for that eventually).

Freedom - I can try that, but it might clip off some of the sides (but this is already a crop, so maybe it will only clip off the stuff that I crop out anyway). We read left to right, so I wonder if going 'up' would mean life, not death? I guess I need to try it and see.

PC - Thks. I do see what you're suggesting with regards to the flower angle. One thing about my photography that limits me is that I'm more of an 'observer' than a creator: I like to find natural settings to photograph, but not disturb them. It normally never occurs to me to move things. Sometimes there's a lot of interesting things like that one can easily do to improve a shot.
