    grandchild

Here's a shot of my grand-daughter taken recently. It was originally shot in raw format at ISO 400. Camera settings were 1/25 sec. @ f4.0. The lighting was window light and the camera was hand held. Very little post processing was needed, only a bit of tweeking of the white balance and minor cropping. What do you think of the lighting? What could be improved. Thanks in advance.

gorgeous picture! I just can't decide if I like the hand in front or not, it's slightly distracting, but also adds something to the picture, old vs. young sort of thing lol. the lighting is just fine, IMO, otherwise, this one is a keeper!

It is an extremely noisy picture for 400 ISO! My advice is to use the lowest ISO available for the light. In this situation you could have used 200 ISO with f2.8 aperture.

Thanks for the kind words, echoback. I did not want to crop it any further and lose any more quality. I couldn't open up the lens any further as I was at maximum already and I did not think I could get away with a slower shutter speed. It turned out ok in spite of the limitations. Thanks for your input.

    Re: grandchild

'tis a nice photo. A little too "noisy" perhaps. Or is it oversharpened?

I wish the red cross type stitching in the bottom corner wasn't there -- it tends to draw the eye. Speaking of eyes, one could hope for mor elight in your grand-daughter's eyes, as well -- with maybe a catchlight.

Still in all, a fine effort.
