    Goth building

I took a shot of this very old building (circa 1870s) in my city with a Panasonic Lumix LC33 at 3MP resolution, and then played around with the colours, brightness and shadows in Photoshop to achieve the final image. It gives it a distinctly eerie, somewhat gothic appearance and makes the building look omnimous. Comments/criticisms appreciated.

This looks like it is an interesting image, but you have posted it so small that it is almost thumbnail size. Try to bring it up in size as this forum allows as much as 640 pixels

You could also click on the link and then magnify the image, but for convenience sake, I'll attach the image. Keep those comments coming!

I wonder what would be lost by cropping out the roof or deck at the very bottom of the picture. This is a little distracting as I view the photo.

I like the subject but I think the lighting, exposure, and some evidence of feflective lens glare are not helping this image. Try it again at a different timne of day when light is not as much behind the building just my thoughts

Thanks for the advice, perhaps I should have done some more editing work on it.

It looks like there is a blue color cast to the image. You are also having some lens flare which is probably hurting your contrast as well as causing that purple spot. I also find that antenna distracting (maybe you could clone it out). I would suggest going back at a different time of day when the sun isn’t so harsh (maybe an overcast day or in the early morning or late afternoon).

    The Light

Not to be harsh, but no amount of post-processing will make this a good image. It's not that you've chosen a bad subject or bad framing, but rather you've shot the building in a very harsh light. One that has blown out nearly half the frame.

The only remedy to that is shooting in good light, I'm afraid. Don't know which direction that faces, but try it at sunset next time. I bet you'll like the result a lot more.
