I think it looks very neat... Kind of like a poster affect. Is that because you editted it on a program or do you just have a really super nice camer?
All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king.
One would never think a dead crab on an aged pier would make for good photography, but you somehow manage to keep bringing great shots to us. Very nice. The subtle colors are very pleasing.
I like the image with the colors subdued. It gives the weathered deck more character. The bluest plank on the right is out of focus (slightly distracting, to me) due to the fact that the deck and the film plane or not parallel. However adjusting the camera to correct for this would have changed the angle of the shadow on the crab cast by your flash.
All in all it is a great shot. I've seen several of your post and I am envious of the subject matter you always post. Oh well, grass is greener problem.
jdugger: Thanks a lot for commenting. The focus plane was more ore less deliberate. Actually, I would have shot this with a Lense Baby if I had one. I wanted some blur but I fully respect your opinion. On a side note, most of my recent shots were... shot during a workshop in late june. The place is far away from my home so yes, the grass is greener elsewhere! lol
I think the subdued colors work really well for this photo. I actually like it quite a bit. At first I didn't realize the crab was dead...I got the impression it had just been caught and was awaiting its fate, but then I looked closer at the legs...yep, dead all right.
Nice work, Seb.
