Please feel free to edit the photo as part of your critique..I have an idea as to what I would do to improve it,
but want to see if I am on the right track..Aside from resizing, there is no work done to it..

Umm I am not sure it is a matter of post processing that is required here!

Although maybe (stress on maybe) the colors could use a little tweaking to come out richer....

The problem here is that the photo doesn't do anything for me!

Elaborating:

The title is about golf just as the little people in the photo suggest... specifically with the flag behind them... but the point is... there is nothing to catch the eye... all i see is a photo of trees! and something happening somewhere between the background and foreground!

Aside from colors and maybe bringing out some details in the dark areas of the trees (by dodging) there is nothing to be done... except maybe reshoot with a subject in mind!

I have to agree with Marc - the golfers and the flag are too small in the frame to really invoke the idea of a golf game. The fact that the golfers are cut off at the legs doesn't help - a little of the green would have helped. I think you need to be a lot closer, and looking down on it a little.

The color balance is too cold.

The point of view is too low and removed.

The water in the foreground doesn't add anything to the image.

Too much foliage not enough golf.

Likely what you could do is look at a whole bunch of golf images and decide what it is about them that you like then use those elements to take better images.

You have ''affirmed'' pretty much exactly the things I was thinking...That is why I posted an untampered photo...For one, I was using the wrong lens, but that is another story...I will start to edit the picture and try some of the changes ''we'' had in mind and see...The thing for me, is I know it is not a great picture, but sometimes thats all I / we have and so at best we / I am left with the option of trying to improve what I / we have...So here I am trying to learn....

I think shooting at a green sloping back toward you would improve this as well as zooming in and a better crop. I don't think you need to go for the landscape look here as far as getting the entire treetops in the pic
