    Glass magic

    Hello everyone,

I have been away for a while but I do am alive! For some reasons, I find myself not shooting much in dowtown Montreal. I have been producing a small series for a Czech friend of mine who's leaving the city soon as she wanted memories of the place.

Here is one of these. Comments are welcome.

    Hiya Seb!

I like the geometric feel that this has...the buildings are quite cool, and I like the perspective. I think it would be stronger though without the cars and such...but I"m not sure if you really have any control over that.

    Hi Seb,

That is a nice shoot. I think I see what you were going for in the composition. However, a lot of the fg just isn't that interesting to me. I'd go for a tighter crop taking some off the bottom and maybe a little off the left.

    Best regards,

Welcome back Seb. We were suffering warehouse withdrawl without you around here

Nice shot a bit hot at the top but it depicts a big city really well. It looks like a shot from a movie & the cop car adds to that as well.

    Thanks folks!

Emily: I see your point regarding the cars. I guess that the shot would be purer from an architectural point of view without them but I am not sure that they actually hurt the scene. They are part of the urban landscape and they are plain unavoidable during day time. Thanks for sharing your view.

Tim: I agree with your suggestion of crop but I was unable to find a satisfying crop while keeping a conventional 8x10 ratio (cropping to get something that will be satisfying in regards to the cars AND the buildings). That's a tricky situation. Any example is welcome. Thanks.

Leels: I am afraid you will have to do without warehouses lol. I'll be shooting sea landscapes during a week long workshop in late june though (I'd get out of city/architectural stuff for once...). Thanks for commenting.

    Seb,

How much did you have to pay the cops to come round the corner at that instant - 6 or 12 doughnuts? or is donuts?

As for the shot I think it needs a person behind the car with the hatch open to make it really sing. The people in the shot are too far way if that makes sense to give it the dynamic feel.

Montreal? It could so easily be London, or New York, or any big city. Any city dweller (like myself) can identify with the image. I like it and I don't especially mind the crop. Is that a police car coming around the corner? Don't let them take you alive!!!

I know that it doesn't scream Montreal but that wasn't necessarily the point with that specific picture, I was more drawn by the various contrasts in the scene. I am glad that you like it.

    Re: Glass magic

Seb, i like your framing and I actually find the cars to add interest for me here in the way that they are reflecting the lighting softly. It brings a certain mood to this scene. The police car turning up the street for me is hurting this as I long to see an unobstructed quiet road to the end building. the lighting and exposure is very good here.
