I like the mood of the first picture. The lighting, the walls and the model expression work together to create an interesting tension. I get distracted by the "thing" that jump in the frame at the extreme left. I'd slightly crop there to clean up the shot.

I don't like the second picture. It seems to me that the face of your model is too blurried (or perhaps not enough) and her gaze is somewhat disturbing. I get the impression that she was becoming bored with the shooting or that she was lost in her thoughts.

edit: on second thought,I am not sure that the cropped hand in the first picture works well. I think I'd prefer to have more space at the left.

The first one here works very well. Pose and expression look natural; nice toning, etc. Thumbs up.

I'm not a portrait shooter, but I think some may point out the shadows on the wall. That's the tough thing about portraiture, you need a quiver of lights and reflectors (and know how to use them). Lots of time you don't notice improvements until after the session.

My thoughts are going to echo what the others have said. The luffa on the left of the first image needs to go, and I'm not a big fan of the shadows behind the model. I'm also with Seb on wanting to see the hand not cut off on the left of the frame. That being said, I do like the shot. The toning and lighting (other than the shadows) work pretty well. The expresion is great too.

As for the second shot. I like the tighter crop, but as Seb said, the expresion is taking away from the image.

I have never shot portraits before, but I will be soon, so take what I have to say with a grain of salt.
