Hyde Mill - Color or B&W?

Visited one of my favorite locations today. Not sure which version I like better. Which do you prefer and why?

Color here. This has that same Terry Redlin feel to it as last years model.

I like the color one but it looks as though you should tweak the WB.

B&W because it has a more "timeless" feel to it. The color shot is great, but I don't think it's better than the one you posted last year.

B&w because it looks crisper with more impact

Re: Hyde Mill - Color or B&W?

Thanks for taking the time to look and comment everyone. I'm leaning towards the B&W version myself, but I'm not sure I'm done with it just yet. I may lighten the snow a little in the FG. I would like to get closer, but I don't want to mess up the snow in the FG.

For those who want to see last winters photo that others have mentioned, you can see it here.

On a side note, this property is for sale. It comes with the mill you see here, a blacksmith shop a house and 8 acres. Anyone have $475,000 I can borrow?

I have changed my mind about this. No doubt about it, I vote for the color version from last year!!!!! I like the composition and the lighting much better in last year's version, Jeff

Re: Hyde Mill - Color or B&W?

I really like the B&W, but last year's would be my favorite if it was a little less purple. This year's color is way too purple for me (guess I'm just not into purple snow). - TF

Re: Hyde Mill - Color or B&W?

hmmm, tough call. i will say that both have their fine points about them i actually like that purple tint. One thing I feel about both of these though is I wish for a little more detail in the shadows and perhaps overall illumination.

    Nice subject and well composed.

Re: Hyde Mill - Color or B&W?

Thanks for the additional feedback everyone. I did play around with the B&W version a bit more last night. I will post an update when I get home, if I remember.

Here are a couple updated versions for your consideration. I took some of the advice you provided and made a few changes. Thoughts?

Re: Hyde Mill - Color or B&W?

I almost always prefer b and w, so I am a bit biased, but of the two b and w, I like the second posting better. It is easier for me to pick out details in b and w #2.
