    Gears HDR

It's from the Boulder shoot a couple weeks ago. It's tonemapped, but with just one RAW file. Taken with a tripod, F16, ISO 100. I forgot what the shutter speed was. It was in a place where it was clearly marked "no tresspassing".

Thanks, I was going to clone them out but I gave up in the process.

    Re: Gears HDR

I think you have a great subject and I like how you have framed this, but I do not feel the HDR did this any good. With everything so properly exposed, I do not feel any depth, or mystery from deep shadows etc. It looks as if a flood light was shining through this machine and revealed too much. Without the "unseen", or the "unknown", we cannot hold much appreciation for the "seen" or "known".

Yep - I don't think hdr was really needed. I like the subject and the weird off kilter angle you photographed it at. I'd love to see a b&w version and play with the levels a bit. Maybe deepen the shadows and bring the midtones and highlights up a notch? I could try it with your approval. I think the image is good and has even more potential.

    Re: Gears HDR

Yes, I would not have guessed it was HDR. But you may have had to do so in order to get the background and the foreground near each other in exp. The middle ground is still a bit dark IMO.

It has some interesting aspects. I esp like the way the blue background acts as a halo. Mixed feelings on the lines. Suggestions for improvement are to try to elim its overall feeling of constriction/crampedness on the next shot. It also could use a centrail focus area - somewhere to look to. Right now, seems the background is the more dominant.

this one is much better. Better colors and for some reason the lines dont bother me nearly as much.

    Re: Gears HDR

The other one is a lot "colder". I think that was the problem.

    Re: Gears HDR

Yes, this is better. Richer in tones and contrast, and I think your right about the other being colder.

I just want to see what you guys think of this heavily photomanipulated picture. (HDR, velvia effect. Thats a lot for me.)

I tried dodging, but there was just too much noise, because of the heavy manipulation of exposure and color saturation.

Old stream power RR crane. Unluckily very rare now days. I would of liked a complete photo of the crane but then I (if I had the time) would model it. ;-)
