That's great! She is full of life. This photo makes me want to be around her and experience the fun.

Tonal quality is pretty poor. Is this a black and white conversion from a digital image? Did you use the Photoshop b&w conversion or desaturate? Try using the channel mixer tool. It gives you better tonal control and you can get a much more snappy and controlled black and white image.

These obviously are not here glasses so you caught her in a great moment. Nice capture. I cannot comment on the tone control or use of PS as my photographic eye is still learning to see. But, I like what I see here.

A good tool to use in Picasa for b&w is the filtered B&W under the effects tab. Scroll across the colors to see which you like best, click on that, and then adjust your highlights and shadows to taste.

I do like the way you have captured her in the moment.

Sounds like that might be pretty similar to what the Photoshop Channel Mixer tool does. So it sounds like a good way to do it.

Hmmmmm - I actually like the first one better. This one just looks darker to me. What I didn't like about the first one was the overall lack of contrast. Using the filters in Picasa, add red and/or yellow and the contrast should start to liven it up a bit. You can also just increase the contrast. Of course, this is just what I would like to see. You're aesthetic might be different. You don't have to agree with me - even if I am the boss here
