I want to improve on my flower shots. How'd I do with this one?

Do you want give out some EXIF info. to go with this? As it sits the "central" blossom, the one my eye travels to immediately in the frame, is soft compared to the edge of the leaf immediately above and behind it. Off hand I'd say you need a deeper DOF throughout and a tighter crop. Try an F stop between 11 and 16 at least.

I have to agree with CLKunst. It's a pretty shot but definitely needs more DOF.

I would agree on the DOF, but not the tighter crop. I like the other flowers as well as the main one, it gives it a nice pattern. If anything, I might open it just a smidgen to get the tips of the small buds on the left.

I'll give f/16 a try. Love the idea about the tips of the buds, unfortunately this was taken last month, so I'm not sure they will be buds now.

I agree with the others on the softness. When I've taken flowers I always use a minimum of 2 stops above the lens to get the DOF and use manual focus to make sure the camera focuses on what I want.

That is only way. Plus if there is not any wind, set up a tripod so you can jack up the F-stops to the max if need be to get the DOF.

Hi Alison - Might be a little too soft/blurry overall. There isn't anything wrong with a flower shot being a bit dreamy, but this one is mostly blur. If you did a crop around the main flower on the right, it might work. Give it a try
