    Too busy?

I drive by this old barn almost everytime I go anywhere and have always meant to stop to shoot it. I thought this would end up as a b/w but decided against it.
The problem is, I can't get any closer and the only place I can get a clear shot without all the trees only shows part of the barn.
I'm kind of liking it but I know there are a lot of trees in the way. Do they detract too much and is there anything I can do about it?
I'll post a bigger one in my gallery as I think bigger helps on this one.

    Re: Too busy?

I would say it's too busy. Your subject is pretty lost behind all of the brush. I think having just a part of the barn would be better than this for me. Take brush cutter along next time...A photog I have met in Jackson a few times keeps threatening to take a chain saw to the trees that have grown up in front of the Snake River overlook. The view has changed a bunch since Ansel photographed it long ago.

I don't understand why you can't get closer? Is there a frog eating bear living in that old shack?

No, but there is a 6 ft. ditch with steep sides on the other side of which is a barbed wire fence with NO TRESSPASSING signs posted.

I think the business might work if it weren't quite SO busy.
Hmmm? Now I'm thinking that if I use a wider aperture and manage to focus through all the trees it might work.

I agree Frog it is a bit busy. If you can get in it maybe a inside shooting out shot. Be sure and take your sneakers for a prop.

It does look kind of busy to me too, but I like the shot overall. Don't know exactly why, but something about those barren "sticks" and snow-covered ground. (Winter feeling, maybe...?) Cabin's position is fine.

If you could find a slightly more open space next time, this might help.

Well I posted almost the same time you did. Now that I know there is a ditch.LOL. Focusing though the trees might work? I wish I had a dime for every subject I couldn't get to.

    Re: Too busy?

    Thanks Greg and Alex.
What I really need to do to make it work is to sneak in and paint it red. Do they sell red paint that looks old?
Alex, that is the feeling I hoped for and I think its an almost but not quite.
    Ah, well!

    Re: Too busy?

Frog, I'm curious if it would be possible to talk to the property owner and get yourself to the inside of those saplings. In my film days back in PA when I was younger, scruffier, and had much longer hair, I would often approach people about getting permission to shoot on their property. Out of all the folks I approached, I was turned down exactly 1 time (It was a little old lady in Stockton NJ who had 9,000+ deer grazing in her fields that were just out of reach of my 300mm lens. She was afraid I'd scare the deer )

Its an idea, jetrim, and should be easy by pretending in being interested in buying the property its on as it is for sale.
Unfortunatly the snow will probably be gone before then.

Frog, I would just contact them and let them know what you would like to do. If you act like your interested it will be difficult to explain the trouble you would take getting a picture as opposed to just taking a few snap shots to show the wife. If it is meant for you to get the picture then you will get permission. Offering to give them one of the final prints wouldn't hurt either, Jeff

Yes I think it is too busy also.

    Re: Too busy?

Hi Frog...I actually like the shot. Is there anyway to get the barbed wire and No Tresspassing sign in the image? Probably a strange idea and different than what you are going for .... but I think it would give the image the feeling that you had about going on the property.

    Re: Too busy?

That might work Jeff and I really doubt anyone would care so might try that when I get time.
Ty, swedish. It is interesting that some like it and some don't but then when I look at it, I like it and then the next time I look, I don't so its a hold it for a while and find it in years to come and wonder why I ever took it or holy moly, I'm a genius. The latter is doubtful.
If I was spryer at my age and it wasn't a ditch filled with water and slush, I could slike down the bank to get the fence in. It doesn't look right in composition at the angle I was.

I like it Frog I think it leaves a little to your imagination. Very restful and quiet. Also could pass for an oil painting
