    Frost Crystals

It's been freezing, again, lately, and two days ago I was told that on the side of one trail in particular there were some large frost crystal formations. So I went out with my 70-300mm Macro lens to see what I could do (I rarely ever carry that lens when riding). I'm pretty happy with the results, especially because I wasn't sure if they would even turn out sharp enough because at such close range and at 200mm, without a tripod I had to be as still as possible and keep a high shutter speed. Anyway, any and all thoughts are welcome on these. Only the third one was cropped a little bit to fit better, and the rest have not been cropped. The only editing as usual was brightness/saturation/contrast.

Beautiful shots, and very well done, given the limitations of light, the lens and no tripod. You obviously have a pretty steady hand and were resorceful. If possible, try these shots again with early or late sunlight illuminating the ice, and take your tripod along.

Your first one is my favorite. Your use of DOF and the colors are nice. I like the "arty-ness" of macro photography.

I think the first is my favorite too.

One thing I didn't add is that this was early afternoon, with completely overcast skies. Unfortunately, unless I would be able to get out tomorrow between classes (again, the middle of the day...) I don't think I'll be able to get to see this again before it rains on Tuesday. Next time this happens again I'll need to be better prepared.
