    To be free

Umm. $5 says someone will tell me about the fence.
Seriously though, as sad a sight as this is, what do you think?

I think the fence is important to this shot. It makes you feel sorry for the poor guy. The only thing I didn't like about it is that blur at the bottom. But overall it's a good capture. Well done

As you said, the fence is going to be the big thing here. But that aside, a nice tight crop, and a great animal to shoot regardless.

    You did well given everything,

    Good job,

    Jared

I think you've put the fence to good work here breaking the frame up into irregular mosaic tiles almost. Well seen and captured; it certainly does carry some poignant impact. Good work.

I just looked at the shot again and I didn't see the blur this time. Either I was seeing things earlier or my screen is messing with me. Sorry about that

I think the fence tells us that if it were not for said fence, Payn would be lunchmeat! He looks like he thought you might be tasty!

I think this is a very emotional picture. I am an animal lover and have a preference for taking pictures of them. This is a sad picture and I get a feeling of "Please help me" when I look at his eyes, without that fence there, you may have lost that important feeling. I think that this is an excellent picture that unfortunately had to be shot. Tigers belong in the wild.

Don't forget that some of these types of cats would be dead if they were not in captivity.

I like the picture. He looks tired in my opinion, as if he just woke up..

The blur is not noticeable untill it's pointed out.

Payn, the fence is part of the story here. Vital to show it as you have. Good job shooting perpendicular to it to keep the lines straight.

Nit-picking, I think there is a little too much space at top and the background blur could have been more pronounced (if not with aperture, changing subject-to-camera distance).

The fence was on purpose. I had some without the fence, but They didn't speak to me. This did because I have hands-on hours (about 500) with Bengals, and was once working to become a handler. It was shameful that this wonderful creature was in this small cage with many others, and while the rest went about their business, he sat there staring out, as if thinking what it would be like to be free (the title).

Thanks to you all for your comments. It's nice to know this moved people differently, and had impact for some.

This is an excellent photo IMO. It makes a statement and creates an impact. The expression on his face behind the fence says it all. Thanks for sharing it. You might be able to have it published in one of the animal rights publications.

    Re: To be free

I think Liz is right on the possibility of getting published.

Great shot, payn. The fence definitely has to be there. This would not even be the same pic without it. And it would not convey the same sense of sadness and that look in his eyes that tells you he would much rather be roaming a jungle somewhere. I am not sure I see the blur, but I do think it could have done with a little more shallow DOF. Other than that, I love it.

    Re: To be free

Wow, thanks everyone. Published? What a compliment. It was as this was part of an assignment. It wasn't animal rights related though. This will also be part of a series I'm involved in currently with other locals.

Thanks again everyone. Jared, sorry I didn't mean to seem defensive (just noticed I did) I appreciate your feedback.

    No worries, no harm done!
