Four Way Lunch

Another added to the series of eating establishments. I have been wanting to get this one for a long time. I just wanted the lights on and people inside. What do you think? This one is locally famous.

One problem with this site is the size limitation of the images posted. I bet this one would look much better large. My only comment is that you didn't stand quite square to the image hence the right side looks taller than the left.

First of all I think that's a great idea to do a series on places like this (!)

I like the shot overall, for it seems to have a nice hometown feeling to it. But something isn't right here.. somehow the place looks skewed in this image. Hey it MIGHT BE, but just saying that it appears that there's a lens distortion/image manipulation issue. You notice how the blue paper machines all seem to be tilting to the (our) left, and so do the right side windows and door. Also, the 4 way lunch sign looks so clean that it seems Photoshop'd That's what happens in the age of PPing. Finally there seems to be a slight lack of detail in the white and red areas. It may also be at too direct an angle, which lacks creativity.

Oh well, still a decent photo..

Thanks GB. I didn't PS the paper boxes even though I see the lean.. Here's what I did. The roof line had a bad lean to the right. I lifted it from the right corner of the gutter up. I also removed many powerlines and two poles. The reason it is cropped so tight on the left is because of a pole. I didn't do any PS work to the sign. Thanks for the observations it gives me a direction to go. Thanks also MB1.

I'm thinking that instead of trying to correct for a bad lean or some other structure oddity it might be better to emphasize or even over-emphasize the odd lines of the building rather than leaving it looking poorly corrected.

Greg, it seems a bit dark.............or was it the sky? Love the series idea though. I've been doing a similar thing with the breakfast places I visit on Fridays.

John this is close to as dark as it was. I wanted it to be a little darker outside but I made it there a later than I wanted to. I was wanting the lights on and people inside. I hate to say the word series, everytime I do I run out of subjects. But maybe not this time......

Greg, I like the idea of the series. This is a good subject too but i think you can capture it in a better atmosphere. I think this would be really interesting at dusk or night like the Waffle house. Also, I feel you should open the crop up a bit as right now it appears cramped and having some of it's surroundings might be a good thing.

Greg - Hey if it has a lean or an imperfection in general then I think I'd show that! Your series is about different places and the fact that they're not perfect can only add to the whole idea of how diverse they are (in my opinion, of course )

GB1 and MB1 I owe you guys big. Here is and edit.I must have been lining up the curb when I took the shot. I was trying to line it all up in PPing. I guess it's just built on a hill. I agree GB with your statement and will remember this with future shots in the series. This is why also the paper boxes were leaning.

You have the JPG compression set to high. You can see the pexilation in the sky. I do like the frist one better than this one though.

Greg - Must say that I like the original a better. Just seems more natural, but I don't know if that's because I know it is vs the modified one.

I think I would have moved back and gotten more of the sides in too, esp on the left side, the corner. I realize that it might add clutter but sometimes that can add to the character of the neighborhood etc.
