Fort George - A Soldiers View

Fort George is located in Niagara on the Lake. The original fort was burned to the ground by the American soldiers from Fort Niagara during the war of 1812. The fort was rebuilt in 1932 by the Canadian government as a historical landmark. It is currently under construction again to restore the rebuild as the wooden timbers are rotting and falling apart.

Not to worry my fellow Canadians... we went and burned down the White House in retaliation and the Americans never came back =P

Jaedon, love the concept and composition. Really works. the only thing that bothers me here and I think it would have worked better is if your focus was on the foreground area. Since there is so much of it, and the texture, detail and chain would have made some pretty nice eye candy to frame the fort tower.
Good work, but i think the focal point would work best the other way.

Thanks for the comment Gary. It seems you have summed up the opinions of the other 31 people that viewed the thread lol. I thought of doing just that change you mentioned but it was after the fact once I got home. The good news is that while it is under construction I will continue to have unfettered access as friends of mine are on the crew and have to do rounds anyway so I just tag along while I am visiting with them.

Yeah, well, coming back never seemed like a prudent investment.

I'm assuming this is an hdr. Its not the focus that bothers me but the foreground hole/port just looks artificial to me. Though there are cracks and gaps and odd angles, it looks too clean. Not sure if I'm using the words I want to describe what I mean but best I can come up with now.
Suffice it to say that I like the idea but something about that foreground bothers me.

Re: Fort George - A Soldiers View

Frog - This is not an HDR. Just a single image with a treatment in lightroom. The clarity is cranked up to increase the detail in the foreground (and the image overall) and then I decreased the saturation and increased blacks.

The clean edges are a bad cloning job on my part to clean up some of the ill effects of the sharpening (dark halos) around the light edges.

The effect is trying to emulate Dave Hill's styling sort of. I don't know that he ever shot landscapes though.
