    Forgotten Windows

This is from some kind of historical old house near Lake Conroe, TX. Even though the house was marked off and the ground beautifully maintained they appeared to be letting the house rot.

raven....at first I thought this shot needed straightening until I saw that the door itself was straight and the house was settling. Good shot, but a little soft IMO. The center window seems cut off as the one side isn't there, but it's probably due to the corner of the front of the house blocking it out. I like the apparant weathering, and I'd like to see it in color to see what it really looks like. The tonality seems good, but others may say different.

thanks - the 'softness' is most likely due to it being foggy. It was starting to lift but was lingering a bit. I couldn't get any closer to the building as it was fenced off unfortunately. I have some color shots at home - I might post some more from the "series".

Raven - Good find. It is a tad bit soft, but I think it could be easily sharpened in your favorite image editing software. What I find a little uneasy here is its washed-out look - perhaps also due to the fog. There seems to be little middle range density also. Not sure how you can fix but I would try by masking out the dark windows and making the rest of the shot a little darker and perhaps playing with the contrast. Might help.

Thanks - I'll play around with the levels a bit more and see what I can come up with.

Here's a bigger view of the scene:

    you can see the fog.

    Here it is in color:

Interesting - I was playing around with the image and noticed I lost a lot of sharpness when I converted the image to 256 greys on the color depth. Here it is in color:

I like the last one best. It shows the textures of the wood more. I also like how the siding changes type at the slightly hidden window. The other pictures would be real good if you had a better sky. Maybe a reshoot there.

hehe - the sky's obscured completely by fog. I might go back sometime, although it is a 3 hr drive.

I was blown away that my editing software was taking out so much sharpness on the b&w conversion. I did another in a different software and it was sharper. And I thought it was just fog. Duly noted.

I like the big view color shot. I wish it was a tad more curved at the top, but very good as is.
