    Forgotten Door

Just finished processing a roll, but was not happy with most. This one I thought was good, and would like to know what you think.
    thanks

    Hi Gary,

there is a beautiful balance to this photo - in the composition, the colour, the tonal quality - everything really!

the light is great - creates an almost pastel feel to it.

great photo. like it a lot

    cheers

Gary, I am pleased by the fact that you went color with this one. You do great in b&w but this is a most interesting variation. As for the picture itself, I just love the subject, it's the kind of thing that always attract me. The tree trunk also adds something to the scene. Kudos!

Yep, I'm going to echo the others in liking the colors in this. I also really like the fact that the tree at about halfway down the photo, looks like it's actually part of the wall. Very cool.

What an amazing image!! Everything seems to be working together to the same end. The tree, the cracks in the concrete, the graffiti, even the shadows, even the light itself. It's like it's all aware of being a part of a canvas. I know that sounds corny but how else do you explain so many elements falling in place together as these have?

Anew, Seb, Emily, and D, thanks for looking and commenting. I also feel the balance of everything in here was good. I happened upon this door in a dead end street while pursuing something else.
Seb, Yes I had to leave the colors in here as it is part of what is pleasing about the subject. Yep, this is your kind of shot, and I know you would have seen it as well.
D, I like your intensity. Thanks

Nice capture... I really have nothing to add, just wanted to offer up a compliment. As with my earlier post to Seb, your wonderful street scenes often wonder into my mind when I am out scouting and shooting my own thing. I have a person that often travels with me, and once asked what are you thinking (when I was staring at a scene), I replied "what would Gary do"? It got me an odd look, but it was what I was thinking. In fact, here is that "Gary inspired image"...(although not nearly good enough for a comparison )

    Re: Forgotten Door

    Gary,

I love the way that desparation, distress, and desolation that this photo conveys. The desaturated colours and the shadows along with the cracks in the wall above the lintel along with the litter on the ground complements the grafitti.

    Excellent.

PS. Its tea time so possibly unduly influenced, but is it just me that sees the frog leg (in black) on the right hand side of the door?

really pretty shot... and I like how the tree trunk diagonals across there. It is definitely a find! Great matting also - I will have to consider doing that to a few shots.
