Mark, my first thought is that this is too bright. The sun is just blown out and dominating the entire scene. But , the effect of the suns light looking as if it is pouring onto the field like liquid is interesting. Was this sunrise? Would be good to get a shot just before too much of the sun is exposed, or use an ND filter Grad. As I mentioned, the effect of the "pouring" light is interesting
Hi Mark,
Looks like a nice scene and I wish I was there. Did you try bracketing to see if you could pull in more color?
Also, I don't know if you know about CCD bloom, but this occurs when pixels on the sensor are so overloaded that the bleed into their neighbors. This is very prevalent when shooting the sun (There is also CCD bloom on my "Morning Hike" submission here. You'll see that the tree trunk narrows).
This is a "con" of digital. One way to mitigate it on the D70 is to shoot at speeds less than the mechanical shutter which is 1/250 (There are two shutters on the D70 -- electronic & mechanical). Thus, next time you are shooting with the sun in view, stop it down (if you don't want the CCD bloom). I should have done this in "Morning Hike".
Disregard all this if you like how the CCD bloom flowed the sunshine into your fog bank.
Cheers,
Tim
Tim, Gary,
Thanks for posting.
Gary, the subject was supposed to be the the tree and the fog but with the sun so close to the tree... I did use 2 stop grad nd. I would like to try this as you suggest before the sun is completly up. I too like the way the light flows into the fog, I also think it is interesting that the hot spot in the fog looks like a reflection.
Tim, It is a nice scene. amazing though what you can see and what you can capture photographicly, at least without some experience and the right tools.I bracketed like heck, there might be something better in the mix. If there is I'll post it. I have heard of the term "ccd bloom" and now I understand it. Thanks for the explaination.
Thank you both again,
Mark.
Wow thats a very cool photography. The detail in the plants or whatever is in that field is amazing, the tree sticking up in the middle seemed odd to me at first, but it fits in rather well. Only thing i'd change is maybe burn the sun in a little bit.
Great image, definitely stunning! Nice scene, that field is quite amazing. I wish I was up there, hehe! The effect of the sunlight is very interesting to capture.
