    Re: Flying into the Sun

Generally I like it, the color (or lack there of) is interesting and the subject works for this guy.

Overall I think the sky is too bright and the plane too dark and I think it would be better if the plane wasn't in the horizontal center of the image.
    No, I DON'T need that.

Cindy - Just a normal shot of a plane here. Nothing wrong with it I will say, just nothing to put it over the 5/10 mark. :7:

Here it is again, re-cropped for a more dynamic feel, brought down the brightness in the sky but didn't fiddle with the plane. Improvement?

    Re: Flying into the Sun

as a noob, i am still trying to understand "rules" etc. i understand that the title is flying into the sun, but isn't there too much sky to the right... shouldn't the space be to the left thereby having the plane not flying "out" of the frame ????

don't know if that makes sense or is contradictory to the post title....

Personally, I think you went the wrong way with the cropping. It looks like it's going to crash.

    Re: Flying into the Sun

Well, it's true. I am trying to make something out of nothing. It caught my eye on the pile while I was editing today. I have more tied into the moment personally than the average viewer. It was a "Fantasy Island" sort of afternoon in Key West, FL, the day after Thanksgiving, I was shooting a wedding there. I was waiting for the bridal party to arrive at the reception and this plane circled overhead once and zoomed off. I only got one shot and then it was back to work. This picture was my "mental break". It is what it is, a quick grab.

GB - It's a fair cop. Thanks for your honesty.

MB & MM SB - The second post was an attempt to address MB's comment about the comp of the first posting.

3Lions - Since the plane was facing away from me I thought it might make sense to have the plane departing the frame rather than with lots of space in front, especially since the most interesting bit of sky was behind it. Technically it is headed into the sun, i.e. the brightest portion of the frame. As GB pointed out, it is a pretty generic looking shot; for me it's worth it to explore the alternate crop for reaction and a little more interest to an otherwise mundane piece. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't - the important thing is to let yourself try.

McPhisto - Thanks! That's very kind of you to say.
